Uveyiks is a worldwide service project started by a group of passionate high-school girls who are determined to make a difference. Inspired by the European turtle-dove—symbolizing peace, friendship, and resilience—our mission is to help those who do not have the same opportunities as us, improving lives both locally and globally. Our name, Uveyik, comes from the Turkish name for the European turtle-dove, a bird that represents tireless effort and dedication. Just like the turtle-dove, we work persistently to uplift communities in need and bring hope where it is needed most. Our Focus At Uveyiks, our goal is simple but powerful: to bring positive change to communities around the world. We raise humanitarian aid, support those facing challenging situations, and empower people to improve their lives. Today, we had an incredible time at the Uveyiks Club Celebration Event! It was a day full of reflection, connection, and exciting plans for the future. We kicked off the event with an orientation presentation for our new team members, led by the Uveyiks board. The presentation showcased our achievements from last year, including the successful fundraising campaign for the 2023-2024 Water Well Project. We were thrilled to share photos and videos of the completed water well in Morogoro, Tanzania—a powerful reminder of the impact we can make together.   After reflecting on our past accomplishments, we shifted our focus to our upcoming project: providing cataract surgeries in Africa. Our team is excited to launch this life-changing initiative, and we spent time discussing our goals and the importance of restoring sight to those in need. We are excited to share our next big initiative: the Uveyiks Cataract Surgery Project in Africa!  By providing access to affordable eye care, we aim to restore sight and transform lives, helping individuals regain their independence and improve their quality of life.  Why This Project? Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide, yet they are entirely preventable. In many communities across Africa, access to basic eye care is limited, leaving thousands of people living with blindness that could easily be treated. Blindness not only affects the health of those suffering but also limits their ability to work, care for their families, and contribute to their communities. By restoring vision, we help individuals regain their independence and improve their quality of life.
