We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Uveyiks Clean Water Initiative! Access to clean water is a basic human right, yet 2.2 billion people around the world still lack it. Every day, women across the globe spend a staggering 200 million hours finding and collecting water. The lack of accessible, clean water creates significant challenges, affecting health, education, and sanitation, particularly in Africa. The burden of water collection often falls on women and children, who must walk long distances carrying heavy jugs of water. This not only takes a toll on their physical health but also limits their opportunities for education and work. Young girls, who could be in school, are instead spending their days collecting water, perpetuating the cycle of poverty. For every year a girl stays in school, her income as an adult is expected to increase by 20%.
